The Digital Europe Programme: Cybersecurity
The Digital Europe Programme (DIGITAL) is an EU funding programme intended to build digital capacity and infrastructure within the EU. The focus of DIGITAL is to facilitate the use of digital technologies and commercialise research results.
The programme, which has a total budget of EUR 7.6 billion, runs from 2021 to 2027. EUR 1.5 billion has been allocated to cybersecurity measures.
DIGITAL’s cybersecurity work programmes are developed and implemented by the European Commission’s European Cybersecurity Competence Centre (ECCC). Cybersecurity measures will mainly be implemented through the ECCC. In Sweden, the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) has established the Swedish National Coordination Centre (NCC-SE) for cybersecurity research and innovation to support the work of the ECCC.
Cybersecurity calls within DIGITAL are focused on increasing the level of expertise and developing technologies that provide a high level of security for network and information systems. The calls are open to businesses, higher education institutions, research institutes and public-sector organisations. Applicants must be a legal entity established in an EU/EEA country or country associated with the programme.
The Swedish Agency for Digital Government (DIGG) has overall and coordinating responsibility for DIGITAL in Sweden.
